Acting President, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer
Matrixx is led by Acting President, Chief Financial and Chief Operating Officer William Hemelt, who has more than 20 years of executive management experience. Mr. Hemelt spent more than 17 years with Arizona's largest public utility, Arizona Public Service company, where he held a variety of financial position including six years as treasurer and four years as controller of the company. Mr. Hemelt earned a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University. Since joining the company in June 1998, Mr. Hemelt has been instrumental in the development of short and long-term financial strategies designed to support corporate positioning and new product development.
Samuel C. Cowley
Executive Vice President,Business Development, General Counsel & Secretary
Mr. Cowley was elected to the Matrixx board of directors in July 2005. In May 2008, Mr. Cowley joined the Company as Executive Vice President, Business Development, General Counsel and Secretary. Previously, Mr. Cowley served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel for Swift Transportation Co., Inc. and was a member of Swift's Board of Directors. Prior to joining Swift in March 2005, Mr. Cowley was a practicing attorney in the law firm of Snell & Wilmer L.L.P., Phoenix, Arizona since March 1990. Mr. Cowley's practice was concentrated in mergers and acquisitions, securities regulation including Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance, and corporate finance. Previously he was associated with Reid & Priest, New York, New York. Mr. Cowley is a graduate of Cornell Law School, Ithaca, New York and of Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah with a B.A. in Economics. Mr. Cowley is admitted to practice law in the States of Arizona and New York.
William J. Barba
Vice President, Finance & Accounting, Treasurer
Mr. Barba was promoted to Vice President of Finance and Accounting in May 2010. In this position, Mr. Barba oversees finance and accounting as well as the Company's information technology and manufacturing and distribution processes. Mr. Barba joined Matrixx in 2004 and became Director of Planning and Administration in 2006. In July 2007, Mr. Barba was named Treasurer. Prior to joining Matrixx in 2004, Mr. Barba held a variety of financial management positions at Mesa Air Group, Honeywell Intellectual Properties, Avnet, and MicroAge. Mr. Barba holds a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from Arizona State University.
Timothy L. Clarot
Vice President, Research and Development
Formerly with Reckitt & Colman Inc., where he held executive operational and technical positions, Mr. Clarot brings more than 20 years experience to Matrixx, where he oversees all regulatory compliance activities, supply chain management, materials and product development, information technology and consumer affairs. Under his supervision, Matrixx Initiatives, Inc. has designed operational infrastructure to support all phases of development, quality assurance, compliance and supply chain management for the company's Zicam brand product lines, including development of five new products in 2002. Mr. Clarot holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from California State University at Fresno.
James A. Marini
Vice President, Sales
Mr. Marini brings more than 20 years of consumer goods and retail marketing expertise to Matrixx Initiatives, Inc. Formerly vice president of New York-based Dominos Supermarkets, he has directed development of the successful national marketing program for Zicam Cold Remedy since 1997, resulting in distribution and expanded shelf presence in more than 50,000 retail locations nationwide. Through the creation of strategic pricing and promotional programs, Mr. Marini has been integral to the continued market expansion of Matrixx's product lines, helping the Company achieve more than 40 percent growth in annual sales since 1999. He attended Mercy College in New York.
